Privacy Policy for Locale
Effective Date: June 27, 2026
Introduction
Locale is a browser extension designed to help you save web pages and track your browsing trails locally on your device. Your privacy is a top priority, and we want to be transparent about how your data is handled.
Data Collection & Usage
What We Collect
When you use Locale, the following data is collected and stored locally on your device:
- URLs of web pages you visit (for trail tracking)
- Page titles and domain names
- Excerpts of page content, key points, and tags you generate
- Any notes you add to saved pages
- Browsing trail data (sequence of pages visited)
- Referrer information
- Page scroll depth and time spent on pages
- Settings you configure within the extension
How We Use Your Data
All collected data is used only within the extension on your device:
- To display your saved notes and browsing trails
- To categorize pages by intent
- To export your notes if you choose to do so
- To sync with your configured webhook or Obsidian (if you explicitly enable these features)
Data Sharing
No Data Sharing with Us
We do not collect, receive, or store any of your data on our servers. All data stays on your local device unless you explicitly choose to share it.
Optional Third-Party Services
- Obsidian Sync: If you enable Obsidian sync, Locale will open an Obsidian URL scheme with your note content. This data is sent directly to Obsidian on your device.
- Webhook Sync: If you configure a webhook, Locale will send your note data to the URL you specify. We do not have access to this data, and you are responsible for the privacy practices of the webhook service you use.
- Google Favicons: Locale fetches favicons from Google's favicon service (https://www.google.com/s2/favicons) to display in the UI. This requests the favicon URL but does not send any personal data to Google beyond the domain of the page.
Data Retention & Deletion
All data is stored locally on your device using your browser's storage APIs. You can delete your data at any time by:
- Deleting individual notes in the History tab
- Using the "Prune" feature in Settings to delete old notes
- Uninstalling the extension (this will delete all stored data)
Your Rights
Since all data is stored locally, you have full control over it. You can:
- Access all your data via the History tab
- Modify or delete your notes
- Export your data in TXT, JSON, or CSV formats
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page.
